Terms of use

The conditions for using Cryptnook Vault and this website, in plain words. There are few, because the app collects nothing and depends on no service.

Updated on 18 October 2026.

Who offers the app

Cryptnook Vault, the app for Android and Windows, and the cryptnook.com website belong to their owner, a self-employed person in Spain. Their details are in the legal notice.

For any question about these terms, write to cryptnookvault@gmail.com.

A privacy tool

Cryptnook Vault encrypts the files you choose to keep on your USB drive or, if you choose, in the app’s own storage. It works without accounts and without an internet connection: only you have access to what you keep.

Use it to protect what is yours, and within the law.

No password recovery

Only you know the password, and it is not stored anywhere, unless you turn on fingerprint unlock on a phone: then it is sealed on that phone, outside its backups, and only opens with your fingerprint. If you lose it, nobody can open the vault or recover what is inside, including us.

Destruction after several failed attempts is off by default. If you turn it on, once the limit is reached the contents become unreadable forever, whoever types the attempts: you, someone else or a slip. The app warns you when you turn it on and before the last attempt. Turning it on is your decision, and so is what it entails.

What you keep is yours

What you put in the vault is yours, and you are responsible for it. We don’t see it and can’t see it, and we don’t copy anything.

The app is not a backup: keep another copy of anything you can’t lose. A USB drive gets lost, breaks or gets wiped.

Purchases and refunds

The Android app is bought on Google Play and the Windows app on Microsoft Store, each one separately: buying one does not give you the other.

The purchase includes the updates we release for that platform, which arrive through its store, and, for at least two years from purchase, any security updates that are needed. What you buy is a licence to use the app, under the store’s terms.

Payment, invoices and refunds are handled by each store, under its own conditions.

What it can’t promise

Everything possible is done for the app to work well, but it does not protect you if your computer or phone is infected, nor from anyone who knows your password. The limits, stated plainly, are on the Security page.

None of this limits your rights as a consumer under the law. If the app does not work as described, write to us: we are the ones responsible under the legal guarantee, even though the store took the payment.

If these terms change

If they change, the new version is published here, with its date.
