What people usually ask before starting
If your question is not here, How it works, Security or Compatibility probably answers it.
Buying
How much does it cost?
You pay once, in each platform’s store: Google Play for Android and Microsoft Store for Windows. The price will be on each store listing when it is published. No subscription, no ads, no in-app purchases.
If I buy it for Android, do I also get it on Windows?
No. Each app is bought in its own store, with its own purchase. Without accounts or a server, there is no way to recognise on Windows a purchase made on Google Play, or the other way round.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by each store under its own terms. On Google Play you can request one within the first 48 hours. Before buying, check that your phone reads USB drives.
Using it
Does it work with my phone?
If it runs Android 11 or later, yes. To use a USB drive, it also has to read them, with a USB-C one or an OTG adapter. Almost all recent phones do; it takes two minutes to check.
Do I need a USB drive?
On Windows, yes. On Android it is recommended but not required: the vault can live in the phone’s own storage, with the same features. There is one per phone, and you can export it to a USB drive to open it on your computer.
Which USB drive do I need?
Any drive of any capacity, empty to create the vault. We recommend formatting it as exFAT, which both Windows and Android read without trouble.
Can I use the same vault on my computer and my phone?
Yes. Both apps use exactly the same format: what you save on your PC you see on your phone and vice versa, with the same password.
What happens if I unplug the drive without locking?
The vault closes and is not damaged. At most, the last thing being saved is lost, and you add it again.
Can I have several vaults?
Yes, one per drive: the vault takes up the whole drive. To move a vault to another drive, just copy its files. On Android, you can also have one in the phone’s storage.
How do I back it up?
From the app, by copying the vault to another drive or to a file. You can then check that the backup can be restored, and get a reminder to do it.
Does it work on iPhone or Mac?
No. On iPhone and iPad, Apple restricts apps’ access to USB drives for a use like this. macOS and Linux are not available for now.
Privacy and security
What if I forget the password?
Then the content is lost. There is no recovery, no security question and no way for anyone to help you open it. Keep it somewhere safe.
Can you see my files?
No. Everything is encrypted on your device, there is no account, no server, and the app does not connect to the internet. What you keep does not leave the drive or the phone.
What does someone who finds my drive see?
That there is a vault and how big it is. Not what is inside: not the content, not the names, not the folders.
If I change the password, is someone who knew the old one locked out?
Not entirely, if they could copy the drive. Your password does not encrypt the files: it wraps a random master key created with the vault. When you change the password, the app re-wraps that same key without re-encrypting the files, which is why it takes a second. Someone who knew the old password and had copied the drive’s header could get the key from it and read what is there, including what was added later. If you suspect someone had both, change the master key too: the app re-encrypts every file with a new key, and the old one no longer opens what is on the drive. It takes longer the more the vault holds.
When I save a photo, is it deleted from my gallery?
No. Putting a photo in the vault does not delete it from where it was. If you want it only in the vault, delete it yourself from the gallery and its cloud backup.
Does it need the internet?
No, never. The Android app does not even declare the internet permission. Updates come from the store.
